Pregnancy, Birth, & Postpartum
Midwifery care in Nairobi, Kenya, and preparation for birth abroad.
As a licensed midwife, I provide care throughout pregnancy, birth, and the postpartum period.
My integrative clinical practice blends evidence-based medicine and preventive care, yet, you will always retain your autonomy and decision making though out your care.
Three paths to care
Not every woman in Nairobi is planning the same birth. Some will birth here. Some will travel home. Some will birth at a Nairobi hospital under the care of an obstetrician and are looking for something more comprehensive alongside it. There is a path for each of you.
-
Pregnancy, birth, and postpartum in Nairobi.
Full clinical care from early pregnancy through six weeks postpartum, with me attending your birth.
This path includes all of your prenatal visits, your labor and birth, immediate newborn care, and postpartum follow-up for both you and your baby. Laboratory work, ultrasound, and obstetrical consultation are coordinated throughout as your care requires. Nutrition, movement, sleep, and emotional health are held as part of your care rather than as topics for someone else.
-
Prenatal care here. Birth in your home country. Postpartum care here again.
Many women living in Nairobi plan to travel for the birth itself. To Canada, to Europe, to South Africa, to wherever family waits. That decision should not mean fragmented care in the months before departure, and it should not mean returning to silence.
I provide your complete prenatal care in Nairobi up to the point of travel. Together we prepare the practical ground: fitness to fly and the timing of your departure, insurance and documentation, what your receiving provider will need, and what to ask for when you arrive somewhere new in your third trimester. Your clinical records leave with you in a form your next provider can use immediately.
When you return with your baby, care resumes here. Postpartum recovery, feeding, newborn examination and weight checks, contraception and the return of your cycles, and the long adjustment that no one schedules an appointment for.
-
Your obstetrician leads your birth. I hold the care around it.
Some pregnancies belong in a hospital, and some women simply choose one. Neither decision means giving up continuity, preparation, or presence.
In this path your obstetrician remains your primary birth attendant. Alongside their care I provide longer prenatal visits between your hospital appointments, preparation for labor and for the decisions you will be asked to make within it, informed choice conversations about what is being offered and why, continuous presence with you during your labor at the hospital, and full postpartum and newborn follow-up at home once you are discharged.
I do not replace your doctor, and I do not work against your doctor. My role is to make sure you walk into every conversation knowing your options, and that you leave the hospital with someone still following you.
Postpartum & Newborn Care
Available on its own, whether or not I attended your pregnancy.
Home visits or onsite in Runda through the first six weeks of portpartum. Newborn examination and weight checks. Feeding and lactation support. Perineal and abdominal healing. Contraception and the return of your cycles. Screening for postpartum mood changes, and the conversation about how you actually are, which is the one most often skipped.
Women who gave birth abroad and have returned to Nairobi are warmly welcome.
Community Circles
-
Community prenatal care brings pregnant women together in circle, facilitated by a midwife. It is a space for care, learning, conversation, and connection.
Each circle includes time for an individual check-in: blood pressure, measurement of your growing belly, listening to your baby’s heartbeat, and other routine care suited to your stage of pregnancy.
It’s a different way to experience pregnancy: one where you take an active part in your own care, and where knowledge, support, and a sense of community grow naturally from women gathering together.
Together, we talk through what matters most during pregnancy, birth, and the transition into parenthood: nutrition, your changing body, preparing for birth, breastfeeding, newborn care, postpartum recovery, and emotional well-being. There’s always room for your questions, and for whatever the group needs to talk through that day.
Every first Friday of the month · 10 AM–12 PM
These circles are donation-based. You do not need to be under my midwifery care to attend or receive a clinical check-in. You are all warmly welcome.

Birth can be transformative, both physically and emotionally. Sometimes, the experience continues to unfold within us long after the birth itself.
Birth integration offers a safe, supportive space to revisit and process your birth story—whether it unfolded as you had hoped or took unexpected turns.
Through compassionate conversation and reflection, I support you in making sense of what happened, giving space to what you felt and experienced, and integrating your birth into the larger story of becoming a parent.
There is no right way to feel about your birth, and nothing you need to resolve before you are ready. This is simply a space for your story to be heard, witnessed, and held.
-
Offered privately or in group settings, these classes are designed to help you approach birth and the postpartum period feeling informed, prepared, and confident.
Together, we explore the final weeks of pregnancy, the physiology of labor and birth, comfort measures, informed decision-making, newborn care, breastfeeding, postpartum recovery, and the transition into parenthood.
Grounded in an evidence-based, woman-centered, and trauma-informed approach, each class creates space for your questions, preferences, and individual needs. Partners and support people are warmly encouraged to participate.

Scope of practice
I care for women experiencing healthy, low-risk pregnancies and some variation of “normal”. As your midwife, I order appropriate tests, assess results, make clinical diagnoses, and continuously evaluate your and your baby’s well-being.
If your pregnancy moves outside my scope of practice, I will recommend consultation, referral, or transfer of care when needed. I make these decisions openly and transparently with you.
I work collaboratively with trusted obstetricians, pediatricians, and other healthcare professionals in Nairobi to help ensure continuity of care when additional expertise is needed.

Midwife-Led
-
My approach to primary care provides comprehensive services, including gynecological care, blood work, and lab tests. I focus on addressing the root causes underlying imbalances or dysfunctions that lead to illness.
My background in integrative and functional medicine combines conventional medicine with evidence-based complementary therapies such as herbal medicine, nutrition, mindfulness, and mind-body practices to treat the whole person: mind, body, and spirit. In this approach, you play an active role in your health and well-being.
-
Midwifery-led functional medicine care for menstruation and fertility integrates the principles of functional medicine with the compassionate, trauma-informed and person-center approach of midwifery to address the underlying factors affecting menstrual health and fertility.
We use different evidence-based approaches to address dysmenorrhea, endometriosis, fibroids, candida, and bacterial vaginosis. This may involve bloodwork and lab Tests, In-Uterine Insemination, nutritional interventions, herbal therapies, lifestyle modifications, stress management techniques, and targeted supplementation to support hormone balance, optimize reproductive function, and enhance your overall health and well-being on your path to menstrual health and fertility optimization.
-
I focus on addressing the root causes rather than just treating symptoms of menopause. As a functional medicine practitioner, I consider factors such as hormone imbalance, nutritional deficiencies, stress levels, gut health, and environmental toxins. Treatment plans may involve:
Personalized dietary and lifestyle recommendations.
Targeted supplements.
Stress management techniques.
Hormone-balancing therapies.
Other integrative approaches to optimize overall health and well-being during menopause.
This approach aims to support you through the transition, promoting long-term health and vitality.

Being a clinician in reproductive health, I have received the stories of trauma from thousands of people, which has motivated me to work towards developing a Trauma-Informed Care curriculum to be implemented in obstetrical programs. These efforts towards prevention are essential, as is accessible therapy for those who have already been injured. In response to that need, I graduated in 2023 with an Advanced Degree in Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy at Naropa University and also had the distinguished opportunity to become MAPS’ Educated Therapist.
A holistic approach to addressing sexual and birthing psychological trauma may involve integrating various modalities of therapy and healing practices to address the physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and relational aspects of trauma.
Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy, when used appropriately and in conjunction with other therapeutic approaches, has shown promise in facilitating healing and transformative experiences for individuals who wish for support in navigating their trauma.
An integrative approach might be structured:
Traditional Psychotherapy
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)
Body-Based Therapies: Techniques such as somatic experiencing, yoga, mindfulness, and breathwork.
Psychedelic-Assisted Therapy
Holistic lifestyle: Nutritional support, regular exercise, adequate sleep, stress management techniques.
Healthy Social Support Networks
Integration and Aftercare:
Peer Support Groups
Self-Care Practices
It’s important to emphasize that psychedelic-assisted therapy should only be conducted by trained therapists in legal and ethical settings.
Additionally, this approach should be tailored to each individual’s unique needs, preferences, and circumstances, with careful consideration of medical history and contraindications.
